FWIW I found some copies of the .44 book at an online retailer and they range from $75 on up. I'll post the link tomorrow (Wednesday) if it's not against the rules.

Be sure to buy two, of course. You'll wear out the first copy in time and you'll have the second one for reference about the time that happens. By then, you'll be able to sell the first well-used copy for almost as much as you paid for both copies when new.

Is it a rehash of articles written or new material?

Just trying to keep this on the first page. I'm not very good at sorting thru multiple pages in a forum.
Middle of October and still waiting. I don't want to lose out on this one.

I used to read John Taffin articles religiously back in the late 80's early 90's when I was an avid handgunner. The only semi-autos I had were 3 Gold Cups. The rest were revolvers, 5 being single actions including a Bisley .44mag and 4 Colt SAA's, all .45 Colt, all action tuned by Bob Munden and all wore Roy Fishpaw grips (or stocks, as he insisted they be called). One had elephant ivory, one had walrus ivory (I was the first to have a pair made from this) French Walnut for the remaining 2, one of which was nickel.
I couldn't say who had more of an influence on my choices, Mike Venturino or John Taffin. Both were highly respected by me, and their word was gospel. I went to Amazon recently to buy Mr Taffin's Book of the .44. It started at $105 USED, so I flinched a bit. A new copy costs $174. I know you can access it on Mr Taffin's website, and I do on occasion, but I'm old school, especially when it comes to books, and to me a book has to be able to be pulled off the shelf, held and read. Now I'm thinking I'll bite the bullet and purchase it. I'm sure It'll probably keep climbing in price.
I certainly don't want to miss out on the Book of the .45, especially since it's my favorite calibre. I'm going to get into the .44 special, a caliber I NEVER tried but have read so many good things about, hence my interest in John Taffin's book on that calibre.

I've also heard rumors of a second book on double action sixguns. Any truth to that, and if so, when might it be coming out?

I've also heard rumors of a second book on double action sixguns. Any truth to that, and if so, when might it be coming out? RIGHT NOW I AM AT THE MERCY OF THE PUBLISHER'S SCHEDULE. YES "DOUBLE ACTION SIXGUNS" COMES AFTER "THE BOOK OF THE .45". BY CHRISTMAS??? WHO KNOWS?
