My boy and I are headed for SA on Monday the 23rd for a 10 day plains game hunt. This will be my 7th trip to Africa but his first trip anywhere, he is 16. I am taking my Miroku 1895 Win .405 WIn., my boys main gun is my dads old pre-64 Model 70 in .284 Win. This rifle was re-barreled (Douglas) by the late Stan Baker of shotgun fame back in the mid-60's. I will post some pix etc, after our return on the 7th of July.

Have a great trip. We did a family one a few years ago with my three sons. Had a wonderful time as I am sure the two of you will.

That can crimp ones style for sure. Sometimes I dream about going every year. I think more even than the cost, as a limiting factor, is the logistics and horrible flying time, especially to SA. Its just awful!

Since this is our first trip to hunt international, I have to say logistics is a huge issue. Between flights, timing of the trip, gun permits (which came through Thursday for the Monday trip), how to pack it all in the appropriate sized luggage (why is it so hard to find luggage w/o zippers), vaccines, meds, then trying to guess the weather (it will be 80F next week for the high) you just about go crazy.
All that said, I will be going to hunt hippo with a revolver this week!

Its just awful! The fact that I do not like to travel or go on major hunts with out my buddy makes it expensive...2007 we spent 75k to go an come...and your right about the travel it is a long way an with being in your seat that long, it is punishing...Have a Great time.

She was out walking the dogs when they took after some recently introduced cows and calves, the rhino chased the dogs right back to her, chased her around a tree, until she tripped. One rhino then butted her into a short orbit and she landed over 20 feet away, busted her shoulder, and bruised her pretty badly all over, but she will be OK. Fortunately the rhino did not press the attack and left her. She could easily have been killed.

We'll be hunting near Hoedspruit. The weather in Atlanta caused our flight there to be canceled. So the adventure will begin tomorrow!
