This weekend was Youth Season in Missouri. My youngest "baby" Boo will be 15 in May and wont be able to Youth Hunt next year. Yesterday we had a great morning but not even a gobble on a neighbors farm. We set the blind up on our place last night. This morning my 5'10 14 year old baby killed this bird in almost the same spot he killed his first bird with a cut down and modified 410 6 years ago while sitting on my knee. The most special thing about this morning,we had 2 birds with over 10 inch beards and I am sure both were over 20 lbs, that hung up at 30 yards,HE was not confident in the shot and HE decided to let them walk. 10 minutes later this guy walked between us and the decoys and he capped him at 15 yards. I LOVE this kid... Need to add this bird weighed 18 lbs and had an 8 inch beard and 1 inch spurs, not a grandpa but definitely an adult.

I love youth hunts. Great things just seem to happen when you have kids in the field. I brought out a kid today for youth day. He killed a nice long beard. Wasn't on the ground 5 minutes after fly down and came running to beat up our decoy. Shot it right on top of the decoy. I've been on quite a few youth hunts when a kid shot his or her first bird. Nothing makes me smile more.
In a couple years my kids will be old enough to hunt in my state. I've had to bring them out of state to hunt.

Great story....no need to be your last youth hunt with your son...
"The Spring Turkey Hunting Season Who May Participate: The youth hunter must be age 6–15 on opening day" (right off the MDC web page)
Boo will be a "Youth Hunter" on opening day in 2015!
After next spring's hunt with your son...
Teach up those kids needing a "dad" for turkey season....
My son is 28 and I've been youth hunting since he turned 16 with nephews, nieces, neighbor kids etc.
Congrats!!!
Bob
