I already expect more of the same in every aspect of life. That aside, you're right about contacting your Reps. and Senators, Steve. Unfortunately, I expect more of the same, too.

Good to hear what was said on the bladeforum. I would just hate to see some people surprised and have th ivory police showing up at a gunshow where there is a bunch of old Colt SAAs displayed and stuff get nasty real fast.

Mark's a great guy and really knows his stuff when it comes to Ivory, knives, etc. this gives me hope but I still plan on buying another chunk for my personal stash. also I got to thinking we do still have mammoth ivory as a substitute for Elephant ivory, it sure beats nothing at all.

I already expect more of the same in every aspect of life. That aside, you're right about contacting your Reps. and Senators, Steve. I concur, Mr. O'Neill. But at what point do those with common sense (walking around sense, a good friend of mine would call it) decide that enough is enough? How many government rules, regulations, and employees will it take to ensure that we all live according to someone else's ideals? Oh, I'm sorry. I left out executive orders. The trend to "One mind, one think." is indigestible in a country based on individual liberty. I need another cup of coffee...

Individual liberty seems to be rapidly becoming obsolete as dissenters are bullied into compliance.

If the new regulations (based on the proposed restrictions) are written and imposed, it will significantly increase poaching. That's basically what these proposals are all about. However, after being written, it has to be considered constitutional, this could take considerable time, maybe years. Most importantly, there are no changes to the current restrictions. These proposals are basically a "national strategy" for combating Wildlife Trafficking. At this point, it's a new proposed ban opposing the US sale of Elephant Ivory, not yet written into law. These new proposed regulations are an attempt on strengthening the existing ban on the sale of post-ban Elephant Ivory. From what I understand, the new proposed restrictions do not include Mammoth or Walrus Ivory. You may want to contact the US Fish & Wildlife website for further clarification www.fws.gov/lab/ivory_natural.php
We the people can have a positive impact toward a more favorable conclusion, if we all stand up and fight these new proposals.
But for now, there appears to be no reason to panic !

No reason to panic unless you are in the business of selling ivory...
I'm guessing panic is exactly what the Dr. ordered...

All my Reps are rubber stamps for the Bamster. The two dumbest Sens in the union, Murray and Cantwell! My state rep used to be allright, but not any more. Rick Larsen. Used to be B rated with the NRA, but like so many others, he is just a fink now!

Never owned a pair myself but shot a few and fondled more and if I were willing to spend the money for it there is no other grip material I'd want.
I guess I'll have to console myself with the fact that the greenie wackos are saving dead elephants. Yay. They get two elephants in their bit of suburbia and they'll want them dead faster than a greenie who just had a deer run through their sliding glass door.
Also does this ban apply to other types of ivory ie walrus?

No reason to panic unless you are in the business of selling ivory... I don't see any panic but we should be doing everything we can to counter it. That is, if you own ivory you may want to sell. Or if you wish to buy ivory in the future. Unless you think that the president signing an executive order rendering your valuable property worthless is kosher. This is not pending legislation that has to withstand a vote. It's a signed executive order. A lot of damage can be done in the time it takes to undo it.

I don't plan on selling any of my Ivory but if this stands and I end up selling I suspect it will be listed as really nice "imitation Ivory".

So we live in a country where the government is working towards making drugs and illegal aliens legal, but legally owned ivory illegal. Hard to believe where we are heading.
