Went out last night for one more deer for some jerky. Thought I was shooting a doe, but it turned out to be a yearling buck. 4 3/4" Uberti .44 Special 7.5 grs. AL 20/28 Home-cast 252 gr. SWCHP ~965 fps Range- 45 yds. The bullet hit lower than I'd intended striking low in the right leg just missing the bone, cutting a nice gash across the heart, then exiting low in the chest on the far side. I'm going to stick my neck out and say the bullet expanded judging from the size of the gash across the heart. This is my first year to handgun hunt and I'm hooked. Third deer this season with the .44 Special. I've run .44 loads far hotter in the pistol and far, FAR hotter in my NM Blackhawk, but judging from this years success, I just can't see any need for a more powerful load, at least until I'm capable at hitting consistently at further distances! I cant imagine why you would need more power on a Whitetail than a 250gr bullet at 1000fps. This is basically the same load I run in my #5, I wanted to shoot the full Keith load in the gun but I shoot the 1000fps load so much better I see no point in it.
Can you repost all 3 deer in the same posting with that gun? It just cool you are hunting with a Colt clone and being successful doing it...

Cholla, I shoot the .44 special also, blackhawk 5.5" Those deer can't take it if the shot is in the boiler room. What kind of distance were these shots? (ok I see 45 yards) Great job btw. X2 btw with those fixed sights.

X2 btw with those fixed sights. Thanks! The ranges were, in order, 16 yds., 20 yds. and 45 yds. Really the fixed sights aren't great handicap most folks think. I regulated the sights to the load I planned to shoot the most which is my hunting load. Other loads are plenty close for practicing. I have a 5 1/2" flat top too and had intended to hunt with it exclusively, but the little Uberti is so light, handy and accurate that I'll likely save the Ruger for heavy loads and use it next time I draw an elk tag. Nice Job!
I sure wish I could deer hunt here in NM more.
Have to draw a tag and if you're lucky then only 5 days.
