Thanks again for putting this together, Todd. Had a great day Saturday. Weather could have cooperated a little more, but truthfully I think the rain contributed to lots more visiting than would have taken place otherwise.
Has the raffle winner been announced?

Greeting to all and hello to you Cannon.
Hopefully everyone had a good time with plenty of food to eat.
YES, WE HAVE A WINNER!
Tom Green from Texas won the raffle. Which didn't get any razzing from his friend Ken Rich.
The bittersweet news was, John was unable to complete the gun by the raffle date.
HOWEVER that left it open for the winner to choose his options for the 10th anniversary raffle gun which made it a bit more personal.
Thanks to all who participated, I wish those who did, but didn't get to come, all the best.
Thank You with my complete heart.

Friends all.
The seminar was a bit wet this year but we still had a pretty full house. There were some who couldn't stay all three days and others who just popped in for a visit. The "official" count was at the banquet and was 33 total. We had good Prime Rib ( medium rare ) with a side of Salmon topped with a white wine and caper sauce. Sorry you missed it! We sold 68 or 69 of the 100 tickets for the raffle so the odds were better. A young lady named Tori, drew the ticket and our waitress, Tammi read the name. Tom Green won the draw. I wish everyone could have won one.
Lots of ringing steel with targets out to 300 yards. Classroom time with John in the mornings. John tore down a revolver or two for a tech refresher. Regan Nonneman came out for the day bringing the number 1001 Marlin 1894 Cowboy Limited in 41 mag. No it wasn't done by Marlin but a custom by Regan. It now belongs to my Sister in Law and started life as a 44 mag guide gun. Being a small framed lady the short, light carbine was a bit sharp for her. Now with a 20" tapered octagon and full mag tube and the 41 cal hole, not only helps ease her shoulder but matches her holster gun. A S&W 41 mag mountain gun. Thanks to Cannon and Jeremy Watts for coming up for the day and bringing their sixguns. I think there were many who were taken with your tastes in revolvers. Mr. Jim Marsal came up from N. Carolina. Jim was the one putting together the Seminar there last year. It was a pleasure to meet him, he's a really nice fellow. Brian Morrow came again this year. Brian is from Ontario and owns the beautiful Bowen maximum that I posted pics of last year. A new guy to the seminar was Dick Fariburn. I've met Dick several times over the last decade but really got to know him better these three days. Dick writes for a police magazine and had worked with Martin Fackler on the gelatin testing. He was quite interested in how the paper penetration compared to what he'd seen and done in the ballistic testing with Mr. Fackler and with his real world performance on game. Dick took a Wyoming state record Shiras Moose and recovered both bullets. One at 467 yards and one at 10feet. He compared a .338 Nosler Accubond at 10 feet to his recovered slug from his moose. Here is the following data quoted from his correspondence.
.338 225gr AccuBond in paper @ 10 feet from Tikka T3 (24" Bbl) - expansion .680", retained weight 140gr (62.2%), penetration 18 1/2" .338 225gr AccuBond in paper/bone @ 10 feet from Tikka T3 (24" Bbl) - expansion .747", retained weight 92gr (40.8%), penetration 4" paper, beef femur, +7 1/2"
.338 225gr AccuBond in moose @ 10 feet from Tikka T3 (24" Bbl) - expansion .610", retained weight 138gr (61.3%), penetration 19-20 inches (under the off-side skin) .338 225gr AccuBond in moose @ 467yds from Tikka T3 (24" Bbl) - expansion .607", retained weight 162gr (72%), penetration 19-20 inches (under off-side skin)
" -If my memory of paper penetration is correct (19 inches) then the wet paper is SPOOKY accurate when compared to a living creature (19-20" estimated by taxidermy mount - no heavy bones were encountered), showing larger expansion but almost exact retained weight and penetration. Muzzle velocity 2800fps (.338 Win Mag)"
We also shot the big 450 Ackley mag with some of Frank's bit 600 grain cast bullets. 78.0 of RL 15 went 2040 fps. Penetration was 29" the nose expanded and sheared leaving approx. 450 grains intact. I'll get the pictures up and the bullet weights recorded in a few.
I've been experimenting with the 44 mag in a Taurus Tracker. It has a 4" barrel with the last inch an expansion chamber. Thus it is really a 3" barrel. I was shooting a 310 grain hardcast 72% meplat bullet at 750 fps. It drilled a hole 30" deep and string straight. Pretty neat. We finally chronographed the .357 bullet and load I shot the butcher beef with this year. It was the 180 grain bullet over 19.0 H-110. Mr. Marsal wanted to see if it fit in his FA 83 and it did with room to spare. From the 5 1/2" gun was running 1585 fps from the revolver.
One of the neatest guns that were there was brought up by Glenn Larson of White label lube. Glenn and his Son, Erin ( hope I have the spelling right ) brought several interesting things but the coolest was an original Howdah pistol. This black powder pistol was shooting a .700 cal 1oz slug over 50 grains for FFG for 507 fps from it's stubby barrel. It used a modified 16 ga hull shortened and converted to pinfire. The pins also served for the extractor to lift out the cases. I must say that was really COOL!
I'll get more up in a while.
I finally found the way to get on this new forum format. WHEW! I was getting a real case Tabasco sauce rising up within. Not pretty.
Todd
P.S 450AK. You may have paid extra but it was still in confederate bills and the bank won't take them! Sure will miss you here in a couple weeks. I must admit they probably won't let us sit together anymore, and nobody we know has enough bail money!

Hi Todd; Are you coming to cody? You have room with some other misfits or weirdos. At least I wont buy any guns in the parking lot with you this time..................and how is the 450 Ackely?

No I won't make it to Cody. I wish I could make all the shoots, alas I have to be selective right now.
Misfit's and Weirdos? Just my kind of folks if they don't mind bunking with Uncle Fester!
The 450 Ackley is a Hoss. It's gonna have some sights put on and the brake removed at some point in the future. Those 600 grain bullets are COOL. We shot them at 2040 over 78 grains of RL15. Perhaps it will need a bit of massaging, as it needs a bit of smoothing in the feeding department.
