I'm within striking distance, money wise, of a New Frontier. Looking for a new .44 Special, shorter barreled one.
Dropped in on a less frequently visited (by me) gunshop yesterday and saw one case dedicated to Single Actions. Let's see, there was a three screw Super Blackhawk, very nice looking ($749) and a New Model Super Blackhawk, 10 1/2" barrel ($450); A Colt New Frontier .45 Colt, 7 1/2" ($1315); either a Great Western or Hy Hunter .45 5 1/2" with those plastic fake stag grips, gray patina, (price ?); two original Vaqueros, 7 1/2" .45 Colt, both beautiful case coloring remaining, one with Ruger's simulated ivory, the other with checkered Gunfighter grips of rosewood. Also a Ruger Vaquero bird's head grip, .45 Colt and nice looking case coloring remaining.
So many possibilities; I just stood and gazed and walked away.

There's a nice Bisley 7.5" 41 mag in the LGS, been there a couple of weeks. Also has dies. Don't remember the price.

I was in there back before Christmas. Looked like a nice shop but it was packed with panic buyers.

Bob,
I have a VERY gently used New Frontier 44 special, 5.5" bbl. I bought it new and put about 30-40 rounds through it. It is basically NIB but I can't technically call it that. I was really wanting a 4 3/4" gun but Colt has said that they weren't going to make one. So, I recently acquired a 3rd Gen 44 Spec/44-40 New Frontier...and now I don't really need a 5.5" also.
I haven't put it our for sale as I wasn't considering parting with it but your post above got me thinking so I figured I'd offer it up for sale. It is yours if you want it. I would need $1300 for it.
Email or PM me if you are interested in it... bigbore45colt @ ptd.net (just remove the space before and after the @)

Craig, is the one in the strip mall Guns and Ammo or something like that? I remember stopping in when I was up that way years ago. I think that was the only time I went there. There was a good little store in Philadelphia MS also. I'm sure it's still around but I don't remember the name. They had a lot of guns though. On the coast, I used to have good luck finding things at Dads Super Pawn. Lots of good stores down there

I think that's it. Looking at Mapquest satellite photos, it looks like it. I'm about two hours from that area so I don't get over there often. When I do, I try to stop in. They always have a bunch of guns and a nice selection of single actions. I remember handling a Cimarron Evil Roy model while I was there last time. Bob might be able to confirm. Seems like it's right across a side street from one of the big box stores.

I think there was a sportsman warehouse right in there at one point but I don't know if it closed when they did their massive closure spree or not.....

I was in Classic Arms about 3 weeks ago. As was said, crowded with panic buyers. I haven't bought a handgun there but I have bought a couple of lever actions. One was a Marlin 336 with beautiful wood. The other was a Browning replica of a Winchester Model 95 in .30-40 Krag. They usually have milsurps too.
I try to go in every time my wife has me drive her to Memphis to shop. I don't go to Guns & Ammo, primarily because of the clientele.

John and Craig:
I used to travel some in western Tennessee and there was a very unique shop in the little town of Humboldt, W.H. Mc Guns. A gentleman by the name of W.H. McClanahan was the proprietor.
I bought several guns there over the years including a Remington Rolling Block and a Fox Sterlingworth made in 1928 new in the box (believe it or not). He had quite a variety including double rifles (new to my experience were double rifles on the rack).
They had at least one real gunsmith on staff and an impressive (old school) shop.
I remember stepping aside one day as a fellow was exiting the shop. It was Hank Williams, Jr.
I have no idea if it's still there but if it is, it'd probably be worth a side trip.

One of the guys at Guns & Ammo made a funny comment about the "clientele" the last time I was in there. I imagine those guys hear a lot of dumb questions from people who can't pass a background check.

Thanks, ya'll, for the heads up about WHMC Guns in Humboldt, TN. We are contemplating a visit there as there is an outlet store there for women and also an old western town which was recently featured on our local PBS TV station.

I missed Mark's post when I made mine. The shop in Humboldt sounds like a nice place to swing by on my next trip to Dixie Gun Works in Union City. Thanks for the tip! Need to swing over to the Cowboy Store in Huntingdon and get my new hat reshaped too!
Bob, you got somebody you trust to work on your hats in the Memphis area?
