Been using 115 pb hp from GT bullets working well for me...Great people to work with... Have you shot their 100gr? I picked up 100 of them to try. I was worried about OAL on the 115's since I haven't loaded for the 32 before, so I went with the smaller for the time being. Might have to pick up some of the 115's next time I put in an order to them. I have had no problem at all with them...

Well, Nice to know that is there but unfortunately as I have no access to that article it's more of a tease than an answer. Would appreciate a P.M. scan of that if anyone has it or even a simple Min to Max gr. with a 100 gr. lead flat point SWC. Either would be a good place to start. From that Brian Pearce article in HL#316 he lists a 100 grain Rim Rock RNFP loaded to 1.385" over A-7 powder 6.0-6.7 grains giving 1,121-1,266fps in a 6.5" barrel.

This is such a great topic. Has anyone run any of these loads through the Henry 327? I'm considering the carbine but no one seems to know the max LOA it will chamber.

Does anyone have a copy of the Skeeter Skelton article on the .32 H&R Mag from 1986? I think it was the March, 1986 Gun World. pp. 50-53.

I have these three articles up on my Imgur page. Does putting up the front page give you access to the albums? The first article is Skeeter announcing the .32 H&R Magnum but not thinking it will be better than the .32-20 The second article he loads for and shoots the new Ruger SSX in .32 H&R Magnum. Then next month Skeeter backs off his load data just a bit as like ALL of us who were shooting the cartridge early on – we were proofing our revolvers with each shot! Those were fun times! i.imgur.com/jEEE8m4.jpg]/img]i.imgur.com/axPjUsG.jpg]/img]

I'm a new owner of a Colt Police Positive Special in .32-20. The gun is in excellent mechanical condition, the bore and forcing-cone look good and as near was I can determine the bore is dead-on to spec (.312.) I've noted that factory loads don't seem to offer much above a .32 S&W Long, but reloads seem to be more in the range of .32 Magnum. A number of them are annotated 'for strong guns only.' I'm going to avoid those loads. I am wondering; in your opinion, speaking generally and with no liability attached, is the old Colt suitable for .32 Magnum-level loads?

I have an old Police Positive in .32 New Police (.32 S&W Long), and even though in great shape, start seeing pressure signs when I go near factory .32 SWL specs.

hey oldschool,
are you seeing pressure signs on the brass, primers, or the gun itself. I like to think I can read half a dozen signs on the brass and primers; but the gun is new question for me. are there signs on the gun showing up before the actual swelling, or cracks?
I've had a Kaboom on bigger calibers and there were no warning signs.
Easy for me to perceive sticky extraction from bulged cases. I even try my eye on the mystic art of primer reading. Reading gun metal is new for me and sounds exciting. What are the basics?

Prescut I'm no expert, but when cases are hard to extract and cylinder becomes difficult to open, I'm backing those loads down! My 32 Police Positive is a small frame and was made around 1918, so I'm very cautious with it. I picked up a 1980s .32 H&R Mag Ruger Single Six, so no need to hotrod the old Colt!

oldschool,
Well stated. Couldn't agree more about the 2 pressure signs and the old Colt. I guess my surprise was that factory 32 SWL had enough umph to expand the brass for sticky extraction. Most of my factory fodder has been almost anemic.
I pretty much only shoot my two levels of handloads today and they are color coded for velocity/pressure. My Buckeye and Blackhawk 8 are tanks and get fed the 1300fps+ mana. The vintage wheelies see about 850fps. I really don't care to make two different 32 loads and keep them separate, but life often forces compromise to stay healthy.
Appreciate the response, Prescut

A great thread. Velocity from the Henry rifle with the 20" barrel run 2100 fps with Federal AE 100 grain jsp. Just over 2,000 fps with the 16" carbine. Some loading with the 100 grain XTP and Todd Corder's 120 grain FPGC bullet.

Go here: singleactions.proboards.com/thread/21317/ask-bullet-designer-bobk?page=14Look at the bullet chart, I know the 314-140-LFN is too long by a bit and won't cycle, but will chamber when crimped in the crimp groove. I would guess a Single Seven Seven to SP 101 length is necessary for max OAL.
