Whats the best way to lighten a S&W 28-2? Would it be 45 Colt, 45 ACP, or 44 S&W Spl. conversion ? Lets here about the ones you have or why one should leave it be.

a couple of years ago would have suggested turning it into a .44 Special, but now that Smith is remaking guns in .45 ACP & .44 Special (I know the lock!) I'd keep a nice old Smith just as it is. That is a pretty six-gun! Frank

45 Colt, It would make a dandy Mountain gun. Bowen does a very nice converstion on 38/44 but as scarce as they are getting this wound be a perfect gun for it.

I had Andy Horvath build a 44 spc. on a 27 it is very light and accurate. I found a 27 in poor shape rather than ruin a clean gun.
I would include a picture if I could figure out how to post photos on this site

Is that a 4" barrel? It looks shorter. If it's factory shorter, it's rare and rather valuable.

If you want a bigger bore, I have a Redhawk 44Mag I'll trade ya! But I too would leave that clean old smith alone.

Sorry never been a big Ruger Dbl. action fan. I've tried them a few times and just couldnt connect with them. Anyway it would have to be a 4" blued version and whats the chance of that.

Leave the Smith alone and buy a Charter Arms 44 spl. A light 44 mag is only gonna get shot in 44 spl anyway.

Outdoorsman's gun: 44 special 1st choice 45 Colt 2nd. Self defense gun: 45ACP. Full moon clip reloads are the fastest possible. If it was my project, it would be 45ACP and a 3" barrel, but that's because I carry single-actions in the woods.

To many .45 Colt, .45ACP, and .44spec on the market new for less money to justify changing a good old gun such as that. However if you really want to rid yourself of the weight, sell it to me to replace the one I traded so many years ago!

Well heres my 28-2 big bore conversion. I knew if I kept it around it would keep eating at me to rechamber it. Not that I dont like the 357 I do Its that the N Frame just cries big bore to me. I traded for something that filled a hole in my collection. Already my mind is at ease.

I have a rea nice 4" I was going to made into a 44 special but my Clements Quinn Special came back and I have a 696 so I guess I will leave it alone. As far as 45 Colt I would get one of the new Redhawk 4" for that caliber

Or one of the Smith 45 Colts that have always been available (at least to the best of my knowledge)
