That particular conversation with Veral also turned up another little snippet of information. AA #9 is popular in some circles with the 230 LFN. I guess you can really get it cooking if you do your load development properly. Personally, I think I'd opt for a bigger guns myself.

That's a very fine looking bullet. Do you have any photos of groups?

Makes one fine looking cartridge. I liked those WFNs at one time but my Bowen 500L Nimrod broke me of my WFN like. A set of tight throats and are you are dead in the water.

Was it a custom mold? Gotta get one. Did it stabilize alright? Just got my hands on two old lyman 240gr. keith molds.

Axe, I agree you have to be careful to fit WFN's to the throats or you'll end up with with rounds you can't chamber. I learned the hard way to check one before loading the other 49.
The mold is not a custom. I bought it from LBT and just explained to Veral what I was looking for.
I'm out of town but will let you know the OAL when I get back.

All of LBTs molds are custom, he has a few more or less standard designs that he might cut a couple extra of for stock but he makes each mold to your specs every time. Good luck with this bullet, I borrowed a guys very similar mold a while back and it is a thumper for it weight in a 45 colt...

Interesting thread... I picked up a 1000 NOS Remington 45 Autorim cases about 6 months ago... couldn't imagine shooting my old Colt 1917 that much, so I had my retired tool & die buddy do a conversion on a Blackhawk I had... specifically built around the 45 Autorim, for +P use, but got a 45 Colt cylinder fitted at the same time, but have several 45 Colts, so the Autorim cylinder will likely be the full time cylinder...
I'm just starting to work up loads myself... was going to start with AA#7, & right now I'm looking for bullets... was thinking about jacketed bullets only for the Blackhawk, so I don't accidentally stuff a +P into the old Colt... I'll keep that gun shooting lead...
