That is really neat, but I find their ad copy misleading. They say it is a factory conversion, then go on to describe how it COULD be a factory conversion. If there was factory documentation that the work was done at Colt, I'd be all over it at that price. Knowing Collector's and their pricing, their price speaks to the lack of documentation.

Still, if I was made of money, I'd be on the phone with them in the morning. :)

I'm not up on Colt pricing, other than to know I couldn't cough up that much scratch for a gun that I wouldn't want to shoot too much: still, the work is neat, and the finish looks pretty good for a gun with a BP frame that was customized for someone with pretty definite opinions on what they wanted in a working gun. If it could only talk...

Agree. They are very careful in their wording to not outright say it is factory work. That is Collector's IME. That said, I have landed a few deals from them when they had something that they didn't know much about.

I am re-reading Sixguns by Elmer Keith. I think he & Harold Croft had many Colts modified with adjustable sights. He even said he offered Colt the loan of some of them so they could improve the Colt SAA. He said Colt didn't take him up on it.

This is an interesting gun, it'd be very interesting to see what it letters to.

Yes. If it lettered that the work was done at the behest of Colt, it would be worth quite a bit more than the current asking price. My guess is that someone sent the gun to King's to have the work done. As such, they have it priced on the high side of what I would consider market - but that is typical for Collector's.

Very neat gun that I would love to own - just not for 3 grand.

Here's a similar one that I picked up in Vegas at the Antique Show. It was a 4 3/4" Bisley 44-40 that had a S&W rear sight installed and a Micro ramp pinned to the front sight. It had the bone grips on it when I got it.

I have since had a 44 Special cylinder fitted to it, the trigger replaced and an action job done to it...it is tight now. She shoots like a dream, especially the 44 Russian (which I tried at the strong urging of Wes Dakota).

I just picked another one up, a regular SAA in 45 Colt with a 4 3/4" barrel...S&W rear sight and ramp front. Haven't received it yet, should be here later this week.

I love the New Frontiers, and these old 1st gen conversions are the original "New Frontiers". They are so much easier to shoot, from a sight perspective, for me, they are just all around fun.

Anybody else notice that the hammer spur seems to have been bobbed slightly? And black powder frame?
