Howdy All, The single-action gods were smiling on me today, because I found this gem just waiting for me to take her home. It's a Freedom Arms Model 83 "Alaska Master Guide Series", chambered in 454 Casull. It came with the original box and paperwork, and a ONE HOLE test target. I don't really know that much about these, other than they were a special run. One blurb I found in a quick Internet search said there were only 26 made. Is that right? Anyone have any additional information? These aren't the best of pics (cell phone), but it was dark when I got it home and I couldn't wait until "glamour shot" weather to get some pictures posted.

Nice! I used to own one. Mine was a 4 3/4" .475, ported, with express sights. I called Freedom Arms about it. If I recall correctly, Bob Baker told me there were 25 made and they originally came with a wooden case. Mine didn't have the case. This was back in 2005, so my memory is a bit fuzzy on the details. It was an excellent shooting revolver, but I had to sell it to pay for some family needs. Was a neat gun and my first with a bore bigger than .45. I also remember balking at paying $1.50 a round for Buffalo Bore and Grizzly ammo for it. How times have changed in that regard.

I had understood there were 29 made, but whatever the number, they are indeed rare. Nice catch, hammerdown 77. About 2 years ago, I asked Bob to have a set of grips left over from the series fitted to a used FG .50 AE I had just bought. A little "lamo-camo" (FA calls it "Evergreen") goes a long way in my opinion, but I enjoy seeing it on the occsaional handgun:

I think these guns were commissioned by Down Under Guns here in Fairbanks, AK. An older gentleman had a pair of these at a gunshow several years back for $1600.00 each.

Did the Casull version of this gun have a different twist barrel than the usual ones? I remember something about that but can't remember for sure what the deal was with the Alaskan version....

Dragging this one up from a decade ago...this is about the only info I can find about these guns. I found this one in TX for a great deal a few months ago. It's a little more handy than my 7.5" .475, I will probably scope that one now and use this as a woods gun. I swapped the v-notch/brass bead combo for target sights, but I managed to shoot some pigs and a deer with it a couple weeks back. cubrock if yours was S/N 3 I found it. imgur.com/a/eBtym8vimgur.com/a/Pp0kutYimgur.com/a/NBMoJt8imgur.com/a/bCCVaKJ

I have one of these. I bought it new from Great Northern Guns in Anchorage Ak. Great Northern at one time supposedly sold more Freedom Arms revolvers than any other dealer. Supposedly they commissioned these from Freedom Arms. If I recall correctly and the salesman was correct, I believe there was about 30 of these made. 5.5" barrel with the Mag-Na-Port single slots on each side of the Express sights front. They came in cardboard boxes. I still have the box. These were built on the Premiere models. Edit to add: these have their own Serial Number Series. There was at least one of other "Guide" type designated series following. If I recall at least one series was built on the Field Grade. I ran across a similar one here in Fairbanks, AK back in 2017 at a LGS when I was looking for a FA 454. The one here looked like it had been packed quite a bit and I thought it was priced a little high. I emailed FA. Here's the exchange... hmm. It was around Christmas time too. There was an Alaskan Dealer that was having these guns done with the engraving. Hello from Fairbanks, Alaska. I have a question that I hope you can answer for me. I am looking at a Model 83 here in town and I’d like to know what the original build configuration was on the gun, when it was made and any other pertinent info that you can give me. There is no original box or paperwork with it. The serial number is DF 6496. Current configuration: It’s a Model 83 454, 6” barrel with laminated grips. It has “Interior Grizzly’ engraved on the back strap and “Alaska Wildlife” stenciled on the barrel. It also has a jeweled hammer and trigger. It has the old style firing pin. Is there anything I should look for specifically regarding the firing pin or anything else? Thanks and Merry Christmas Perry Perry, There were 10 of those made 6/7/1993. The had evergreen grips, express sights and the polish and jewel. They are Field Grade models. They were all ordered by an Alaskan dealer. Without seeing the revolver, it is hard for us to discuss anything you may need to consider. Regards, Lori @ Freedom Arms
