a fellow physician called me into his office this afternoon, to show me a gift given him by a friend and patient, who has a terminal mesothelioma [malignancy] in his chest. it is a 38/40 and by serial number from 1898....amazing action and tight as can be. the patient is a wonderful fellow who is always of good cheer, despite his disease. this was also accompanied by a big webley 455 said to be a Mountie's pistol. what a gift. my colleague plans to keep it his whole life, and put it to use. i will help him with some ammo. a beautiful gun and a very touching moment for both of us! just had to share.

Wow! Did the engraver sign the gun? Curious who did it.

That is incredible.. I hope JT sees this. The gentleman that gave it to your friend may be of good cheer and a good guy,but I think the gift also speaks volumes on the character of your friend.

You are quite right! I told him He needs to get factory letter. I need to look again for engravers signature if any One of the most generous and meaningful gifts from one shooter to another, I agree. Will let you know what we find out.

That is on the borderline of being too special to risk shooting...

Admittedly, though I'm far from an expert on the subject, that revolver in that vintage, with that extensive engraving coverage (which I presume to be period), might be considered museum grade. I don't think I would shoot that one.
If it were mine, my next step would be to contact Colt to obtain a Colt Archive Letter.

I don't think he will shoot it much but I believe he promised to shoot it in memory of his friend and of course keep it for good.
