Very nice! Looks like quality work, too! What caliber is it? Says .45 Colt on the barrel. And the rims are nearly touching. I wonder if you have more restraint than me, rep1954. I couldnt have that in the house without calling around to get that hammer CCH'ed too. Looks pleasantly packable to me. When a guy capable of doing his own work (as rep1954 is) is pleased with someone else's, it means a lot.

I actually like the look of the black plastic Colt grips on a blue/cch gun. I remember back in the 80's they came with wood and I had to find those grips for my .44/40 New Frontier that I used to have.
Now Rugers on the other hand, unless you get one of those rare nice set of factory grips, scream for new grips.

i am truly stunned to see that Colt was willing to do a dovetail front sight! i had no idea that was something they would offer or could handle. not only that, this front sight has real square sides (verses the radiused sides of the usual 3rd gen) for the perfect sight picture (is the rear sight grove nice and square too, with enough light on either side of the blade?).
wow. and a BP frame too boot!!!!
and what a nice way to handle the base pin removal. simple, elegant, easy (might even be better than USFA's new method, closer to what Alan Harton does with the 3.5" FA 97).
its definitely worth the price you paid (in fact, i consider that "cheap" for the work they did).
OMG, i want one!!!!! it doesn't get any better than that!
wait... maybe there is one more thing that it could use: having Turnbull CH the hammer, or if you're willing to use a non-Colt part, how about a USFA birdshead bisley hammer?
congrats rep1954, that was worth the long wait!

The new Colt's are looking REALLY good! The dovetail front sight is a nice touch too. I notice the blade is nice and square, definitely a good thing.

Coyote, Colt does not stock the front sight as a part as they told me. One of thier gunsmiths makes them when someone orders one. As for the sight picture using a machinist scale the front sight measures .075" wide, the rear sight notch measures .100" wide. The gun has a 4 5/8" sight radius and with my short arms the front sight appears to be twice as wide as the light that shows on both sides of it.

Colt request that you send the gun to them direct if your laws apply because the only deal with the sender of the weapon. It cost me $50.00 overnight to Colt. The 3 1/2" barrel conversion cost $280.00 and adding the dove tailed front sight was another $150.00. Colt shipped it back for $30.00. A final total of $510.00 at my door step. I could have done evrything along with a friend and just sent it to Colt for a matching finnish but that would have came to $300.00 $350.00 before it made my door step so it only made sense to let them do it all. Next week I'm sending a ejectorless out for a 2" barrel and a birdshead grip frame.

Colt is now really trying to work with customers. that's terrific news. and from how you describe the blade, it sounds about perfect. this little project of yours just keeps getting better and better. thnx for paving the way for the rest of us. i'm starting to think about what i can sell so i can order one like yours, as is a very good buddy of mine. you made two converts here. :-) thnx for the insights, rep1954.
